TESIA THE TEASER......

Post by wmw998 on Wed Dec 25, 2013 4:50 pm

This is a super-charged bird, it is called Chestnut-headed Tesia. It is about the size of a Pygmy Wren Babbler, if not smaller. You have to have a silent camera, the bird jumps/skips each time you press the shutter button. To make matter worse, they are always in dark area, and the chestnut colour head just does not help in the focusing. Had to tried so hard just to get these few images which are slightly out of focus. Bird has no tail, almost !

The challenge was in making do with what I had. It was actually fun shooting this one. The bird could only jump one time, and when it landed, I shot it at 10 frames a second. Problem was with getting enough shutter speed at right exposure. Can we shoot multiple frames a second with mirror lock-up ? Never tried mirror lock-up myself.
Thanks guys.

Adrian, yes you can do mirror lock up with multiple shots which means using mirrorless camera. Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

You just need to turn on the life-view feature. than you can manual select where you wanted to focus. The continuous shooting works. if you continues pressing the release cable shutter without releasing.

This method does not cut the shutter noise off, does it ? My problem with this bird was the noise, it was like shooting the Little Pied Flycatcher with flash !

Yes, liveview also one of the method. For Adrian's case, liveview mode is the best, I supposed.  bounce  bounce
But the joy of looking through viewfinder and pressing the shuttle button are gone which I think Adrian might not be happy without having these two.
