Stork-billed Kingfisher - My first!

Post by mallardg500 on Fri Jul 26, 2013 4:41 am

It has been a long while since my last post here, my bad.

Recently, I made a trip back home and it was my first trip of birds shooting in Malaysia.  Despite having a very tough time coping with such unusual weather (heavy sweating most of the time then rain the next day..) and struggling with challenges shooting in low light and busy background, I had quite a blast - shots lotsa of lifers (yes Bulbuls too and of course missed a lot as well), awesome food, and most of all putting faces to names of those good online friends I came across over these years: so thankful!  Especially big thanks to our bros Desmond, Paul, and Adrian for being such great hosts!!!  Really appreciate it!!

While I still have more shots to go thru (blame it on jet lag), below are 3 of the shots that I managed to touch-up for sharing.  I was blessed to get three of the many Kingfisher species right in front of my parents place without having to travel too far.  You can say I was farm raised..Smile - my dad is a farmer (fish farm).  These were edited on my work notebook - I'm quite sure the colors are not quite correct.

1. Stork-billed Kingfisher (juvy)

1/160s | f/9 | ISO4000 | 800mm + 1.4x TC = 1120mm

2. Fresh catch of the day.

1/500s | f/10 | ISO4000 | 800mm + 1.4x TC = 1120mm

3. Change position

1/500s | f/10 | ISO4000 | 800mm + 1.4x TC = 1120mm

C&cs are welcome since this is my first attempt shooting in Malaysia.  Any tips are greatly appreciated for my next visits.

Thanks for looking.
Phoo

Agree.. color is not 100% right.. but not bad too..

Like the 1st shots, if the face can turn bit toward you... this will be best.

 Welcome back

Thank you guys!
I need to redo my forktail bro Desmond (yeah maybe next year...) and after I learn more from you on how to shoot in low light and on those birds that cannot sit still...  Will post what I have soon. Smile.
