What Should I Select In A Tripod?

Post by pummkin on Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:15 pm

I am looking around for a new tripod, a lighter & a sturdier one. My current Manfrotto 055 Nat Trekker is about 2.6kg & with my Manfrotto 393 gimbal head, it weighs in access of 3.8kg. No One of the clamps has cracked too. I know I can get it fixed with a new clamp but weight is a big issue.

Since I am using a lighter system, I figured I don't need to spend a bomb on carrying-capacity as my camera body & lens weigh less than 4kg. I am looking at the HorusBennu from Korea. Please see [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

With a max load of 15kg & weight of 0.97kg, the 135cm max height might just be okay for me.

What do you think?

1. Is a carbon fiber = good + light

2. Is a 4 section = good for travel as it is shorter and all 4 sections were collapse

3. It is a little too short for the max height, especially shooting higher subject with angle more then 45 degree.

4. Cost how much?

5. Can consider Benro, available in Malaysia, suggest you test it out with your gear.

Cheers,

This is the specs, each section is 42cm but I don't understand why it says max height is 135cm but with centre column extended, it's additional 11cm. (What exactly is the height then???) I have a gimbal head & adding onto the 135cm, it might just be enough. It's carbon fibre alright, cutting 2kg from my previous setup.
